New segregation bins have recently been introduced at Trinity Church. It is hoped that these will help us recycle more and reduce the amount of waste material that goes into our black bin.
Top 10 Ways to Reduce Waste
The proceeds from the sale of the Aluminium Foil and the sale of recycled candles made by a member of the Eco Group have helped to purchase new hanging baskets for Trinity and a hose and watering lance to assist the gardener!! Thank you for supporting us.
FIRST AID KITS
We are now well passed our initial target of £50000 worth of items rescued. Our total to date stands at £57600. We have actually rescued and sorted 2758 kits. This is the equivalent of 2.33 metric tonnes or 14.1 cubic metres – that’s like 14 huge builders’ bags full!!!! This would otherwise have gone to landfill. Our local Rotary Club is also involved in a similar project with kits from another company which they sort, and then donate to us for dispatch to our usual charities. We now also have St Phillips Church in Joppa near Edinburgh on board. They receive kits from Survitec’s Leith branch. The items recycled from these kits go to a project in Tanzania supported by the local Roman Catholic Church in Joppa. We are working on setting up other recycling projects in other towns around the UK.

Top 10 Ways to Reduce Waste
- Use reusable bags and containers when shopping, travelling, or packing lunches or leftovers.
- Choose products that are returnable, reusable, or refillable over single-use items.
- Avoid individually wrapped items, snack packs, and single-serve containers. Buy large containers of items or from bulk bins whenever practical.
- Be aware of double-packaging - some "bulk packages" are just individually wrapped items packaged yet again and sold as a bulk item.
- Where possible use Eco Friendly cleaning products.
- Compost food scraps and garden rubbish. Look at the website Love Food Hate Waste for tips and ideas.
- Reduce the amount of junk mail you receive. Contact Mail Preference Service and Royal Mail.
- Take good quality unwanted items and clothes to a Charity Shop or try Freecycle or other similar websites.
- Buy items made of recycled content, and use and reuse them as much as you can. For instance, use both sides of every page of a notebook before moving on to the next clean notebook. Try printing on both sides of paper.
- Remember to bring the following to Trinity and Skene Churches to be recycled – used postage stamps, foreign coins, ink cartridges, milk bottle tops, clean aluminium foil and Kenco/Millicano coffee bags.
