Baptism and Thanksgiving and Blessing
Congratulations on the birth of your child. If you would like to arrange for your child to be baptised or blessed, please contact the church office.
Baptisms are usually arranged for the last Sunday in the month, during the Sunday worship.
What is a Thanksgiving and Blessing service?
The birth of a child is a great blessing and many folks look forward to celebrating the birth with family and friends. Our church would love to be a part of that celebration. A thanksgiving and blessing service allows you as parents to give thanks to God for your child and to ask for His blessing upon them. It is an opportunity to stop and share your gratitude with others. A thanksgiving and blessing would take place as part of the usual Sunday morning service, at either of our churches. It requires no ongoing commitment and no profession of faith.
What is baptism?
For some parents it will be appropriate to consider baptising their children. It is expected that one of the parents is a member of the church or willing to become a member because baptism involves a profession of faith by one or both parents. They declare that they want their child to be included within the church of Jesus Christ. Within the service, one or both of the parents profess their faith in the Christian teachings of the church and take vows to bring their child up within the life of the church – teaching them about prayer, the bible etc. The vow envisages faith to be an important part of your life, regular attendance at church and involving children in Sunday School and beyond. The congregation also promises to support the parents and child as best as they can. Baptism is a sacrament and therefore a sign and seal of God’s grace to us. It is a significant step and it calls for a genuine commitment on behalf of those taking promises.
